THE MEXICAN SUITCASE BY TRISHA ZIFF
Gala première of this documentary that tells the story of Robert Capa’s ‘Mexican’ Suitcase, a treasure, sought after for more than seventy years, that contained negatives of pictures by Robert Capa, Chim (David Seymour) and Gerda Taro of the Spanish Civil War. It was saved when Mexican diplomats in France rescued Spanish Republicans from the Argelès-sur-Mer concentration camp.

He was awarded the prestigious TED award in the United States in 2011. Now he is back in Arles for the closing evening to present all the projects he has set up around the world with his team, and a swarm of fans that follow him on the internet.

The Discovery Award has led to the invitation of more than fifty guest nominators, whose widely varying choices illustrate the ongoing expansion of the field of photography. Many of the winning artists were on the rise at the time; and as this exhibition conclusively shows, all of them have gone on to find real reputations.

LAUREATES OF THE AWARDS
Announcement of the winners of the Discovery Award and the LUMA Prize, who will each receive 25000 euros, and the winners of the Book Award and the Historical Book Award, who will each receive 8000 euros.
